What are hemp hearts?
Hemp hearts are shelled hemp seeds.
What are the benefits to eating hemp hearts?
Hemp hearts are very high in protein, they are 1/3 protein. Four tablespoons
of hemp hearts contains 42 grams of protein. This protein is more easily
digestible than the protein in meat, whole eggs, soybeans, cheese, human
milk and cows milk. This is a whole food product and not processed like
protein powders, I feel they are more beneficial than the use of protein
powders.
Hemp hearts contain Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids. Hemp oil exceeds
all other oils with 78% polyunsaturated fats. The essential fatty acids
may be helpful for those with arthritis, and skin problems such as eczema.
How do I use hemp hearts?
Use 1 – 4 tablespoons per day in a shake, or on food, they have
a light nutty taste. We use them on salads, cottage cheese, yogurt or
sandwiches. See my article on ideas for shakes.
What health benefits could I see as a result of using hemp hearts in my
diet?
We have noticed that adding hemp hearts to the diet increases energy
levels, and decreases hunger, it is high in fiber as well. They are useful
to maintain present weight or to help lose weight. The fiber is very useful
for colon health. For extra fiber, the whole seeds are great to eat as
a snack.
I used to recommend psyllium husks for fiber, but have found the hemp
hearts not only contain fiber, but have the added benefits of the Essential
Fatty Acids and protein.
Hemp hearts could be useful for those who have been diagnosed with: skin
conditions such as eczema, those with arthritic or joint pain, those with
high cholesterol or blood pressure, and to those who are diabetic.
Can anyone use hemp hearts?
There are no known allergies to hemp foods, and can be eating by those
with allergies to nuts, gluten, lactose or sugar intolerences. The easily
digested protein is great for anyone from body builders to the elderly
to young children.
What about hemp seeds?
Hemp seeds still have the husk on them, so they are higher in fiber. They
have been roasted and lightly salted. We have found them to a great snack
that provides added fiber and satisfies hunger. A little goes a long way,
one to two teaspoons is plenty.
. Hemp Hearts is a food but it may be advisable for certain individuals
to have dietary changes monitored by a doctor.
